How do we rank?

The weights do not change silently: every modification appears on this page as a new, dated version.

The four components and their weights

Every listing receives one score per component between 0.0 and 1.0; the final score is their weighted sum. The weights add up to 100%.

There is no separate condition component. The container's condition counts through the price reference: a listing's price is measured against the reference price of its own category (type × condition × country), so a like-new and a damaged container are scored against their own market, not against each other. The ranking does not claim that newer is better.

If you want to browse by condition, use the condition filter and the “By condition” sort.

Proximity

• The anchor is the “Your country” setting, which you can set in the header and the footer. It is not the browsing country filter and not the interface language.
• The ranking covers 10 countries. The score is linear: a listing in your own country scores 1.0, one in the country at the end of the list 0.0; a country outside the ranking scores 0.0.
• Without a country setting the component is neutral (0.5) for every listing — we do not guess where you are.
• This is a neighbouring relation, not a straight-line distance: the marketplace shows location at city and country level and we do not claim a more precise distance.

Price — direction and slope

• The reference is the computed median of the listing's own basket (type × condition × country): from the prices of listings actually on offer, on a EUR basis. There is no reference price written into the code.
• A basket is covered when it holds at least 5 listings and 2 independent sellers. If not, we measure against a wider basket: first the region (the listing's country and its 3 nearest neighbours), then all countries. If neither reaches the threshold, the component is neutral (0.5) — we do not guess.
• The formula: a listing 30% cheaper than the reference scores 1.0, one 30% more expensive scores 0.0, one exactly at the reference scores 0.5; linear in between, capped at the ends.
• Currently no basket is covered, so the price component is neutral (0.5) for every listing.
• We measure against a reference at most 3 months old; older ones do not count.
• Prices are compared on a EUR basis at the ECB daily reference rate; we do not use a rate older than 7 days. A listing without a fresh rate gets a price component of 0.0 and goes to the end of the list, with a notice.

Rating

The share of positive buyer feedback. A seller without ratings (“new”) receives a neutral score (0.5) — it cannot be penalised for not having feedback yet.

Feedback collection starts with the buyer account modules.

Availability

• The number of moves needed to release the container: zero moves score 1.0, 3 or more moves score 0.0, linear in between.
• The value is known only where the seller has a LIVE Smart Access plan AND keeps the depot at level precision. In every other case — without the plan, at a row/column depot, or without a measured position — the component is neutral (0.5): it neither penalises nor rewards. Hiding (Smart Access) is a separate rule, and with the plan it applies at both precisions.
• At a column-mode depot the move count is a lower estimate, so in the ranking the neutral value applies there too. The marketplace hiding rule (Smart Access) is independent of this: it applies in column mode as well.
• A ranking position cannot be bought, but on this ONE component paying can move the score both ways: with a Smart Access plan and a level-precise depot, an easily accessible container scores above neutral and buried stock scores BELOW neutral. This component carries the smallest of the four weights and measures real accessibility — not who pays more.

Ties

With equal scores the newer listing comes first, then the listing identifier decides.

Immediate availability

A container under reservation is not in the list. This is not a ranking matter but a marketplace rule: what cannot be bought right now is not shown.

What does not count

• listing fees or commission,
• the seller's plan,
• clicks and views,
• the buyer's previous purchases.

The other sorts

Sorting by price, by country proximity, by newest and by condition orders solely by the key in its name; the Best match score does not affect them. The one exception is the view automatically widened when there are few results (see above): there the proximity key comes before every sort.

Few results: widening to all countries

If the browsing country filter yields fewer than 3 results, the view widens to all countries, and your country and its neighbours move to the front of the list (without a country setting: the filtered country and its neighbours). In the widened view this proximity key comes before every sort — price, newest, condition and Best match alike; the widening is flagged above the list.
